The Humble Petition of the China and Japan
Telephone and Electric Company Limited
sheweth as follows:-
1.
Your Petitioners are a limited Company registered
in England and carrying on business in the United Kingdom and elsewhere and have since the year 1884 been established and carrying on the business of a Telephone Exchange as the only public Telephone Company in
the Colony of Hongkong.
2.
A Bill entitled "An Ordinance for authorizing the
Construction of a Tramway within the Colony of Hong Kong" was published
in the Hong Kong Government Gazette of the 20th July 1901 and such
Bill has been read first and second time by the Legislative Council
of Hongkong and your Petitioners are informed has now been forwarded
to England for the consideration of His Majesty's Principal Secretary
of State for the Colonies.
3.
The motive power proposed to be used in connection
with the lines to be laid down by the Tramway Company to be established
under the suggested Ordinance is electricity and your Petitioners understand that the single trolley system is to be installed and that...
